my first 24 hours using a DGT board on lichess

@Bracco #5 for out of sync. i just set the board up for an ongoing correspondance game. you aer right it can recover by reloading the lichess dgt page. good tip.
@gigantaure #10
just check within LiveChess which linux special device file is your DGT board connected to.
Make sure your linux user is included in the special device file group
@timothyha #2. After additional testing, I don’t think this can be an issue. As long as you reflect the right positions for the game (even with a delay) you will be fine. I reset my board today for a correspondance game and lichess detects it just fine. My opponent’s move was done at least 12h before.
I lost a completly won game because the bishop felt out of my hands on the wrong square making per accident a legal move. Anyway I really love to play with the board. It feels so real!
Thanks for this quick summary. I am really close to buying a dgt board and since its a rather big investment for such a niche hobby i am still wondering about a few things.

I want to use the board for many things, like online play, playing vs engines and recording games.
I am wondering how precise the movement detection is. @gigantaure mentioned, that he has to lift pieces instead of pushing them around because otherwise the moves will be detected incorrectly. Of course this wouldnt be a problem when I play by myself. However when recording an otb game against a friend for example, they most certainly wont be lifting pieces. Also the professional players dont lift pieces. Do they have someone correcting the moves or is the "lifting problem" related to the lichess interface (too high scanning rate/submitting moves too fast)?
So I am really worried about not recording a game correctly, on various forums they say only 85% of games are recorded correctly.
Can you guys recommand any of the different wooden pieces`? should i get weighted ones?
Bonus question: is it worth buying the DGT pi or is it unnecessary since i can run an engine on my laptop.
Thanks in advance
Not 100% sure about that but my feeling is that the "lift" of a piece when using a DGT board is a must.
I own a board. I've never used it for games with firends, onlu with servers like FICS and lichess, or prpgrams like Chessbase, Arena, PCT,...
With each and every piece of software that I used with my board sooner or later I had problems whenever I forgot to lift pieces
#17 i don't pay attention to local games on the DGTlivechess app . maybe they are recorded correctly but i couldn't tell as i only use the board on lichess. about your engine question. i wouldn't buy the pi as i found i can play all i like with stockfish on lichess. but if you need to be offline, that's another matter.

another tip. don't setup the board on next to your regular computer setup. i did that yesterday. i kept confusing myself by playing on the screen instead of the board and was regularly out of sync with my pieces. i suggest some distance from the monitor and mouse (beyind arm reach).

also during a rapid game yesterday (still talking about confusing myself). i decided to unplug the board to finish on the computer. my opponent saw me offline for the rest of the game (was nice enough not to claim the victory, so we finished it out anyway). i even reloaded the lichess game tab a couple of times...didn't seem to work. the game looked fine on my browser. i suspect me closing the DGT page might have caused this.
What's about playing with black? I'cant move the postion to the other side of the table, and moving the board is also not possblie , because the usb interface?

Best
Dirk
