Crazyhouse World Championship 2021 - Tournament Schedule

Hi everyone,

With 260 eligible entrants at present date, the CWC 2021 will have a double elimination bracket holding 256 players. We may have a few more players meet the minimum requirement of 50 games played by 1st March.

This means that there will be a single elimination knockout (Single elim KO) round to reduce the field to exactly 256 players who will proceed to the double elimination knockout (Double elim KO) stage. It follows that there will be 10 rounds required in the double elimination knockout stage to determine the 12 candidates that will join @opperwezen (runner-up from CWC 2020) in the candidates stage to make the field of 13 candidates in total.

For full details related to the above tournament structure, please read this forum post:

Below is a schedule which sets boundaries for the "latest" dates for when:
- match dates should be agreed by
- matches should be played by

Matches certainly can be and are encouraged to be played earlier if possible. It will be great to get ahead of schedule if we can and where we can, provided that the right conditions are met for matches to proceed.

To provide enough flexibility, each round prior to the candidates has allowance for two weeks. This includes one week for players to communicate and agree upon a match date, with one additional week to have the match played. The candidates stage is expected to progress at a faster rate of one match per week. There is provision for extensions in exceptional cases which will require advanced notification to organisers (details below the schedule).

Rules and guidelines related to scheduling matches:
- These rules are aimed at keeping the tournament running on a schedule for completion within 2021, while also allowing some flexibility for players to extend beyond round deadlines due to personal circumstances
- In general, players should adhere to the schedule as a guide for latest dates when matches are to be arranged by and completed by
- Forfeits due to lack of arrangement or completion are preferably avoided, but will be considered if potentially causing delay to overall tournament schedule
- Player that has been making effort to schedule match will be awarded victory if opponent has made no reasonable effort to make contact during allocated time
- Players should suggest match times via the public forum addressing their opponent with @[opponent name] to serve as a notification and proof of effort made to schedule match within allocated time
- Match times should have date and time zone clearly indicated with either a city or standard time zone abbreviation
- A player that turns up 20 minutes or later for a match is considered as not showing up and will be entitled to one more opportunity to reschedule and turn up on time per match before being considered as a forfeited player
- Repeated behaviour of being late across several matches will likely attract warnings and further consequences to be determined by the CWC organisers
- To allow for holidays, study periods or other personal events, each player is entitled to a maximum extension bank of 3 weeks, which is preferably reserved for unavoidable circumstances and only to be used following advanced notice to the organisers (@JannLee, @FischyVishy, @littleplotkin, @okei, @LegionDestroyer, @googa, @grogers)
- The above time extension bank is similar to taking “leave” and can be used for multiple periods of time to avoid a match forfeit, but cannot exceed 3 weeks overall for the event during 2021
- Players taking leave should aim to recover time and get back on schedule in later rounds upon return
- Extension bank will not apply to the single elimination knockout round which must be completed by 14th March 2021

Hopefully the above schedule is clear and provides enough flexibility for the players to arrange and complete matches in a fair manner. While I can understand that this is a long schedule taking up the majority of the year, the purpose of this is to act as a guide for a timeline that we should not fall behind on. We'd like to progress through the event faster than this if we can. Feedback, both positive and negative is certainly welcome as this will give rise to productive and informed discussions for the future.

I will soon publish a separate forum post which will establish a set of other rules related to the tournament.

Regards,
Jann
It does seem that there has been some confusion as to which forum post relates to what exactly. I thought it might help to have a repository of quick links that participants may need (aside from the above, obviously) , so here it is (if I have missed anything please add below!)
