Do you believe the body has the ability to heal itself?

I read a lot of health articles, too many to list here. I wouldn't even know where to begin in listing health topic ideas, but I often see stories of people improving after life-threatening or degenerative diseases and it being a BIG headline because science doesn't explain such positive health recoveries often.

Here is the basic idea. I believe if you eat a large VARIETY of healthy food with many vitamins and minerals the body needs AND maintain an active lifestyle where you move around during the day instead of sitting still staring at screens for days on end, your body will serve you well. It can repair damage and help you live your best life. Often times what I see in a vast majority of cultures is the indulging of junk foods and the inventions of products to help us be more sedentary and then SHOCKER people get sick.

It is the holiday season. I am prone to sit on my couch and watch movies... I work hard during the year and this is a nice refreshing break. Even still, I make sure I get out and about during the day. Even attended a few dance classes this week just to be sure I keep the cobwebs off.

So... holiday plans for health?
What will you do not to gain the usual holiday weight this season?
The human body definitely has the ability to heal itself, otherwise my knee would still be bleeding from when I fell off my bicycle 50 years ago.

The question comes down to what degree.

Glad your knee healed up ok! :-)

I think the body is amazingly complex. I think disease comes from feeding the body terrible fuel for years and we are essential working with "scrap parts" instead of the best and all the junk impedes the design to function properly.

I know I haven't had a perfect healthy lifestyle my whole life, so I do need doctors from time to time to help my body get back on track.
The body must rid itself of infection.
You are not of the body.
You must be absorbed.
It is the will of Landru.

Regular magazines or scientific articles? Can you post a couple to see what you are reading?

Regular magazines often either quote just specific parts of the text to fit a narrative, or are just simply opinions. You do have to check the original source just to make sure that at least the original article actually says what the magazine is telling you.
So, regular magazines can even tell you that being overweight is healthy.

Actual scientific articles are more precise. And most of the time, they are correct.

So, if the former, take it with a grain of salt.
If the latter, form your opinion based on what the most 2-3 prestigious magazines tell you, they are more likely to be correct.
From my own ignorant layman's perspective, it depends. My right ankle, for instance was injured some 9 or 10 years ago. It started as a stress fracture, playing sports. It has only gotten worse over time, and doctors have different opinions as to whether I should have my foot amputated or get joint replacement surgery. But my leg certainly hasn't healed itself.

I suffer from chronic knee pain, but I found that acupuncture has helped, as has trying to lose weight. yes, sometimes things do get better, if you do smart things like watch your diet, get what exercise you can, and cut down on the alcohol.

I had a serious bout of pneumonia at the beginning of December (it's just a few hours too early to say "last month" :B-{)> ) I am still recovering. I certainly hope my lungs have the ability to recover.

So Lichess has limited links I can share... I've reached my limit...
But my list of favorite doctors include:
Dr. Neal Barnard
Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn
Dr T Colin Campbell

You can google any of their names "+ health articles" and get slammed with good stuff... Enjoy... No, I am not picking up random magazines off the shelf at the supermarket. I've studied nutrition as a hobby for over 15 years and managed to stay really healthy and active at age 46... my colleagues in their 30s have trouble keeping up with me, so I must be doing something right ;-)

Actually, no... Stats show the main groups of people who died had underlying health issues like diabetes, heart or lung issues. Healthy people passed through it with pretty mild symptoms... For the record, I never got it and didn't vaccinate, though several of my friends had it twice... I lost a friend who died in his late 30s with it, but he was overweight and had asthma. It was really tough on people starting out with health problems.
