Kenyan Chess Player Caught Red Handed Pretending To Be A Female!

ChessOver the board
A Male Chess player managed to register in the Kenya Open as a female using the name Millicent Awuor.

The male chess player whose identity wasn't revealed after being caught stated that the reason for this wrongdoing was due to a financial need.

Articles have been written in multiple publications containing the full story of how he got to pretend to be a female chess player.

This situation however has shed light on a long pending discussion that keeps on getting ignored multiple times by chess governing bodies... The fact that there isn't enough monetary injection into the game.

Over the years we have seen chess players who are passionate about the game and have a talent for it just let it go and decided to focus on other ventures.

Recently we also saw Grandmaster Vasif Durarbayi(@Durarbayli) also stating his factual complaints about prize funds from chess tournaments. https://lichess.org/@/Durarbayli/blog/am-i-a-chess-tourist/FZyZuxSh

The Chess player from Kenya has a classical rating of 1500 which means on a good day he is able to win a few tournaments within his rating categories.

The question however is how much does he have to pay in costs In order to travel to an event, purchase food and also pay for accommodation? Is the tournament prize going to be enough to cover those costs and also leave him with something extra?

Whilst his actions are not to be entertained and should be punished, it also leads to the question of how chess Federations are going to improve the financial instability in our game.
