Trice's Chess

3 members

Formerly known as the 10x8 variant "Gothic Chess," it was renamed Trice's Chess by Ed Trice in 2019. Trice's Chess adds two new pieces to the board, as did Jose Capablanca in 1924, Henry Bird in 1874, and Pietro Carrera in 1617. The Archbishop piece moves like a Knight or a Bishop on any turn. An enemy King must escape both types of checks from the Archbishop. The Chancellor moves like a Knight or a Rook. Likewise, the adverse King must not be in check by either of the Chancellor's move components. The board being 10 files wide, castling requires a move of 3 squares for the King. Squares crossed by the King must not be under threat, and neither can the King's final destination square. The board is populated by these pieces when viewed from white's side of the board:

Rook, Knight, Bishop, Queen, Chancellor, King, Archbishop, Bishop, Knight, Rook

There are plenty of example games available on PyChess.org where we meet to play.
You can also play turn-based games on GreenChess.net

Bobby Fischer sought to play a match with Anatoly Karpov in 2006. This made headlines in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the New York Post, the Discovery Channel, and the Dan Heisman chess.fm radio broadcast.

Find out more at the old https://gothicchess.info/ website, or look for Ed_Trice online when you play. If you love attacking chess, you will love Trice's Chess. Boards and pieces are available through EvenBetterChess.com and through QVC showcases twice per year.
