Lichess v2 is here

I'm happy to see that Lichess is evolving. Thanks for all the work.

However, in my opinion, keeping the large borders on the side would have been better. We don't need the main menue to be so big, covering everything. The squares were better than the rectangles. It was more ergonomic.

But on mobile browser, this looks nice. But who is using lichess on a mobile browser when there is an app ?

By the way, we still are waiting for the translation of Lichess. I would be happy to translate the Practice or Study section.
Thibault mentioned in one of his streams the last days, that he planned to release v2 on the 7th of May.
Obviously he was ahead of this plan tonight and simply missed to adjust the date in his announcement. ;-)
As for me, lichess v2 become better in terms of visual effects, but worse from the design point of view.
In terms of usability:
for smartphone - v2 website is kinda useless because lichess app is great (cached puzzles, notifications)
for tablet - don't use these, but must be awesome
for desktop - completely ruined my experience at first, feels oversized (can tune board size, but not other elements) but should get used to it in a week or two

Overall, as a developer myself, amazed by huge amount of work done.
Thank you for all your effort and dedication!
v1 was a polished product that took years of tweaking to become what it was.

v2 has a lot of potential w/ the new tech stack it's built on, including the strong UX legacy of v1, but is still in its infancy regarding final polish.

Keep up the good work, I'm sure the UI will become awesome once constructive feedback is implemented!

cheers,

Love the upgrade!

To all the haters, v1 is not coming back. Typically in these scenario, these four stages exist:
Deny, Resist, Explore, Commit.

You are all in Resist mode, please move on to Explore
@LetMeSlapYourKing you forgot: leave. And trust me, I explored. It's a mobile browser app slapped on the desktop, and looks and behaves just as well as such apps usually do, which is to say, awful. No doubt it's an improvement for mobile browser users, but at the expense of desktop browser users. Why can't mobile just use the app?

Hey,
First of all, I wanted to thank you for all the great work you've been putting in!
However, there's one detail regarding the studies, which seems to be missing now.
When you look at the position, and on the next move there are a few continuations ( the main line and subvariations), if you keep scrolling, it just automatically takes you to the main line. While in the previous version of lichess there was a feature which is very convenient, it exists in ChessBase too: a window would pop up and you can choose among all the possible variations, and look at that line in depth. If you need, I can attach some screenshots for more clarity.
But again, you guys have been doing a tremendous job!
