Today's downtime

Dear players,

We just had a serious downtime of 13 minutes. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

What happened?

First, because of a failure at the hosting company level (OVH, we're frowning at you!), the main database server went online.

Our secondary database servers took over. But then a bit later, the main database server went intermittently online and offline, causing the replication to fail. Two of our three database servers became corrupted.

We're now running with the last DB server, and rebuilding the two others from scratch.

Hopefully luck will finally be on our side, and everything will go well from now on.

We will update you here, should anything happen.

Sorry again for the downtime. We unfortunately cannot refund rating points, but please do not hate us for that.
We're doing the best we can, here.

Thibault.
Wouldn't it be possible that if server went down and then goes up again, abort all live games that were ongoing? Not that it matters much, but that shouldn't be difficult?!
Thibby, I know it's bad luck don't worry. At least the third one didn't get corrupted.
That is already the case. If you lose a game on time, and the game was started before a server restart, then the game is automatically aborted.

I would say for the money we have it is currently the best available solution for lichess.

You'll always find a better service if you have infinite money but as you know lichess is based on donations.
Thanks Thibault for handling such problems for us which works 99,999% of the time so that we can enjoy your server !!!

Good luck with the third db and the rebuilt of the others: We appreciate it.
Well it's usually how it works... but probably given the extraordinary events of today, even that has failed in some cases. Sorry :(
