Can I leave a challenge for someone who is offline?

I want to challenge my friend to a correspondence game, but we are normally online at different hours due to timzone difference. It seems that I can only make challenges to those who are online at the same time as me. Is it possible to leave a challenge for a friend currently offline?
I'd like to see the same feature (i.e. a "standing challenge" for correspondence which persists regardless of whether or not the challenger or "challengee" are online).

I realize this doesn't directly answer your question, but it's a workaround: If you're on the lichess.org main page there is a "Play with a friend" button. If you press this, select time control "correspondence", and press the color button of your choice, the site generates a URL. If you PM this URL to your friend, he should be able to join the game even when you're offline. Hope that helps!
I've been working hard on this, and it's now available!

Feedback welcome.
Fantastic!! Thank you so much.

Though, I have to ask: how do I do it? Creating a challenge from the player's profile (who is currently offline) still seems to send a live challenge.
just close the tab, the challenge is still going. you can see the open challenges that you put out when clicking on the new challenges icon on the upper right corner.
congrats again thibault for the amazing integration into the UI also! really neat!
