How to use atomic engines in Scid vs PC

As the title suggests, I\m trying to play against an atomic engine, particularly to learn to avoid opening traps.... I have 2 questions.
1) Where can I download a good atomic engine (ideally the one that is used here)?
2) How do I tell SCID that I'm playing atomic? (Otherwise pieces won't be removed in the normal way for atomic)

If I can't do this with SCID, does anyone know of a program which can play atomic?
1) The Stockfish Multivariant Engine plays Atomic (and many more variants). I think it's almost the same as in lichess.

github.com/niklasf/Stockfish/releases

But the version in the Link above is slightly outdated. Newer versions (for Windows and Linux) and some suggestions on how to use the engine, can be found scattered around in the following thread:

http://talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=61959

2) SCID can't do this. SCID does not support chess variants.

I know of the following chess GUIs that can play atomic (and more):
- Windboard/Xboard (please see the talkchess thread on how to do it. It's a bit complicated, but win/xboard is very powerful)
- pychess
- cutechess
Thanks for the info on scalachess - it works, but I'm not sure how to load an engine. When I go to the "Load Engine" option and look in the Stockfish folder, which file must I open to load Stockfish? All of the files in the folder are strange formats (no .exe or anything like that). Which file must I use to load the engine into scalachess?

As you can tell, I'm pretty new at this, so sorry if it's something obvious.
