it wasn't 3fold repetition..

lichess says a game is a threefold repetition even though it wasn't a 3 fold repetition.
Lol it was a textbook 3 fold repetition.
It was even a 5-fold repetiton which is automatically draw even if neither player claims - just look at the positions after black's moves 53, 55, 66, 68 and 74...
It might be confusing when there are intermediate positions not part of the path cycle that could lead to the position repetition in one of the inter position repeat path segments... i want to use other words than the typical ones, they might force another look at the definition.

the paths in between the repetitions need not be the same, although being the same would clearly lead to a position repetition (by deterministic chess single position transitions).

In the example above from another online entity, we do not see much of what happened before the first position marker for the position cycle (I do like the graphic symbol, it is way better than the words "fold repetition" of what would I add).

However, we do see that the paths in between the repetitions of the position are not the same (one has to make sure it is not only the diagram, but also the turn that are the same). We can count on knights to hop around like that. This looked like a 2 pieces ballet between a knight and a king, reordering moves and checks.

would have been nice for imprinted of that post to have the diagram so we can see the whole board. but i guess the point was the server indicators.

One has to include turn into the position definition (why i split diagram and turn). lichess has that yellow highlight which tells you the side to move is the one with no yellow trail.

so the exact positions that repeats that I see in the OP game are: going backward, (general chess motto) from position with move 74....Kg5 applied, the yellow being on black, we need to find the previous repeat also with the yellow on black.

we do have more positions with same diagram, but they have different turn.
71.Kg2 is wrong turn, but an above post did look a bunch of them. So why did lichess not call it before.. Oh i see. 5 is automatic. 3 is upon a player asking for it? But both 3 or 5 are about administration of chess games, practical termination rules. These could be perpetual games, and the chess strategy or best play problem would be exactly the same.

We just don't like those (in the same way it seems that people are swarming around fast time controls, human time). We are not machines. in any case 3, 5, or 2. they all mean position cycle. you have one chance to wake up, i guess.
