tournaments for lower rated players

love tournaments! and really enjoy this site......but i find it a bit frustrating when paired with an elite player with 2000 plus rating....it would be great to see a tournament where the pairings are on a more equal footing.

Some Players just stopped playing rated games after first ones in a variant - which they all lost. Then their Rating is frozen at lowest possible 1000 -1200.. But their skill can still be beyond 2000. Maybe could find a Workaround with an "unrated Rating" then from all unrated games as well - but losing is part of the game. "block all up to 500 below me" , ... "block losing!"...what next ? be happy about it - they are rather wasting their time.

...just saw you Play only official tournaments "hourly Bullets" - instead try to open your own Bullet tournaments (maybe with a friend so it gets started at all and, others may join over time)

"1min until start " works best imho and then open the next if the first one not starts or Ends early /breaks down.

Honestly you shouldn't play in tournaments if you think it's unfair that there elite players in the tournament. It doesn't matter you can become as good as them, it just takes practice. It helps to lose to them and realize what you did wrong, plus that's how it works in real life as well, you could be going to an open and get totally destroyed first round by an IM or GM. So why have lower rated tournaments and always win?

some of us would prefer a lower tier tournament so we can enjoy playing against people of approximately the same skill level. its not a question on fairness as you suggest, but a question of enjoying the game.

if there arent enough sub-1600 players to justify a tournament than so be it. however we don't know that to be the case.

This idea has been mooted and seems quite a popular idea. It's a sort of league system whereby players end up playing those who are roughly of the same level...

That's just a waste of programming effort. Just play rated games with rating filters.

#8 LOL that makes no sense whatsoever. How do rated games with filters replace tournaments?

If it is a waste of programming effort, one could equally argue that all tournaments and variants are a waste, too.

If you are just play people at your rating how are you going to get better?
