On game I lost when time runned out on a dead draw position. Please correct me if Im wrong.

Your opponent can checkmate you with a series of legal moves.

Hence you lost on time according to the FIDE Laws of Chess, A.4.
If you do not like that, then play with increment.

For example, BK h8, BBg8 WK h6 WN g6. Checkmate.
