I would like to note that the move of 3...Nxe4 is not a serious mistake. After 4.Qe2 Qe7 5.Qxe4 d6 black still good.
Maybe he learned 3..Nxe4 from Chessable course "Secret Blitz Weapon: Damiano Petroff".
Lol this post resonates, my Dad also started playing when I was a kid, and I didn’t enjoy it (he was maybe 1000 on a good day). We hear a lot about the difficulties of being a chess parent, but being a chess son can be stressful too :)

From own experience of online blitz of an 1800 rating; do not play it ! blitz can help you only if you are FM or higher with sound knowledge of the game phases: opening, middle and endgame. In this case you can solidify and test your knowledge as suggested. Otherwise you will in matter of few weeks slide from 1800 down to 1500 . It has been discussed and confirmed already by a number of respected coaches. Why invent warm water now?
