Insulting other players is not a bagatelle. It's a criminal act and should be taken very seriously. I would like to know what actions are taken by Lichess after someone is reported for insulting. It's very unsatisfactory that there's no feedback to a report. A cheater will be labled after some time, so we can see a result. To me the only appropriate answer is to close their account. It should be easy to verify a report and one single delict is absolutely sufficient for taking action.
I like Lichess and brought my friends here, too. Please show that you can handle this problem.

I played some games in the anonymous area. "Lucky idiot" seems to be a compliment there, a more polite equivalent for the lame "gg". Some other things people told me before leaving the game: "Fuck you asshole", "I raped your mother and she liked it", "fucking english faggot".
I recommended Lichess to so many people as a fantastic site, but when they come here, this might me their first impressions! No one cares about such things? Maybe more important to have detailed rating statistics.
Most people doing this are just joking. They just want to destruct your game a little bit. Remember this is a mind game.
For anonymous players just forget it. But for members, doing this in most games is really not nice. Consider reporting this type of players.
I suggest you try it out in everyday life, if people will understand this as a joke. Maybe in your country it's different.

Well in my country you can meet good and bad but mostly good.
As I said most of these players are just joking. Sometimes they feel good to screw their opponents mode. Don't take it seriously.
Play members only, they are more civilized than those anonymous.

it depends where you live. in germany online insults can be a criminal act, but only few people care.
This is why people in my country (USA) have to fight so hard right now to get rid of this ridiculous PC mentality. Thoughts, feelings, emotions - Were meant to be communicated and conveyed. What one man may find insulting another may find enlightening.

Chess is a violent game in which you beat the other player, mentally, emotionally, and objectively. No one enjoys being defeated and made to feel stupid. So intrinsically, losing a chess game incites anger and a strong desire for vengeance.
What do you expect a guy that just lost and felt humiliated to express? Happiness and niceness? That ain't gonna happen.
You beat a weaker player, you deal with their angry responses. It's how the game goes. You should not play chess if you don't enjoy seeing another person angry at you.
