Why today chess is more of learning and preparation using chess en and database and solving puzzles.

Earlier there is uniqueness of person playing chess. Now it all about knowing lines and preparation using chess engine.. now most games at higher level most likely end up in draws.

It all has to do bc of engines. People these days after finishing a game go and turn on the engine then memorize the moves that are correct. They don't learn when or why that certain move is good. Back in the day friends would get together and analyze a game for ours trying out different moves and learning ALOT!
IIRC it was Capablanca who first warned about the "draw death of chess". That was decades before ENIAC, not to mention chess engines (or even ones stronger than human players).
