The Bongcloud was popularized by chess Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura. Although the bongcloud is not recommended for new players, it is legendary in the GM level. Hikaru Nakamura has used the Bongcloud Attack in online blitz games. He streamed himself using the opening exclusively on a new Chess.com account with the aim of reaching a 3000 rating.
Nakamura played the Bongcloud three times against GM Levon Aronian during the Chess.com Speed Chess Championship on 2018. On March 15, 2021, Hikaru had succeeded on the popularity of the Bongcloud because the World Champion himself (Magnus Carlsen) played the bongcloud against Hikaru Nakamura. He mirrored the opening with 2. Ke7, leading to a position nicknamed the "Double Bongcloud". The Game was drawn by repetition of the kings. Many people were upset with this game, but I don't understand why..
