Interesting mate pattern

I guess this was a typical game for me; messy, open and aggressive, with no dearth of missed opportunities on both sides. So I was very chuffed to find the mate in 1 which suddenly presented itself and which was (for me) not at all obvious or planned.
I'm 57 years old; I'll never, ever get significantly better at chess; but I love this goddam game, and here's why:

Well done, he was hoisted by his own petard. Normally in an endgame it is wise to try to get your king towards the center of the board. However 35. Kg3 was suicidal. Had he slunk away to H1 with a brave retreat, I do not see a good way for you to continue your attack, but there is still play although white has the advantage.
Thanks guys! Yes lurarose, you're right, things aren't looking that bright for Black after 35.Kh1. Opportunismus can be a fine thing!
Hello,

oh yes, i like it, nice one.
Why are you so pessimistic about your age? I think people can learn at any kind of age.

Have a nice day.
I keep trying, Gaby, thank you!

I just got another nice mate - albeit thanks to my opponent's blunders on moves 43 and 44 when we were steering for a rock solid draw, but still rather unexpected to suddenly mate with just a bishop and 2 pawns.

The 2nd game is a help mate. Nice mate

43... Kxf4
44. Bxe6.
44... Kxe5

I don't see either side promoting here as the pawns are blocked and on the edge and always got a bishop dead draw.

Like riding on a roller coaster.
Hello, you're welcome.

Almost in the center of the chessboard with a bishop+king+pawns and an unexpected blocker, that's a nice one too!
Even if your opponent has make mistakes, you've been able to take advantage of his mistakes.
Your brain is still going well. And fast! ; that's a blitz game.

Have a nice day.
