The Autumn Marathon was the most difficult marathon for me so far. I didn't think I would play, because I needed a rest after playing many blitz games this week, so after it started I simply went to sleep. When I woke up, I did hang around in the tourney chat, and decided to play just a few games ... for fun. After a good start, things got bad, and games became more and more blunder-ful, but I was already in top300, so it would be a pity to stop. The Scandinavian gambit served me quite well, also against higher rated, but the Sicilian Mengarini gave me some troubles (Perhaps I should do more home-work, or simply play other lines) Then I lost a bit of a silly game against CM KingsCrusher, which made me feel even more bad , since I had a nice 5.5 - 5.5 score against him in the past.
But I tried to not curse at myself internally for too long, and did my best to go on, with chocolate and tea in the background. And I kept telling myself that trying to flag my opponents in 3+2 games was no compensation for playing bad, though I did win at least one game on time, by producing the most annoying and unexpected moves for my opponent in time trouble.
Towards the last hour I didn't think I could make it into top100. I was in top200 for a long time, but it seemed almost impossible to go beyond that. I kept blundering games, and from time to time my brains seemed in a frozen tired state, seeing checkmate and hanging pieces threats everywhere. In the very last hour, late at night, with less noise outside, finally things went smooth, and then even top50 seemed possible. Eventually I ended at 60th place with 103 games and winning percentage of 56%.
