Pausing a game feature

I think a good feature should be having the possibility to pause a game (with the opponent agreement). It happened to me sometimes that I was playing and someone come to my house and had to stop playing. Asking for a draw seems not fair and, when it happens, I just resign.

Giving players the opportunity to pause a game and restart it would be great, in my opinion. Would like to hear the feedback fom other players too.
I agree. Thanks for the proposal. That has happened to me plenty. Many times my opponent has been sitting next to me and we've both been experiencing bad network, or one of us is called for some reason.

It would be fair, if the board was not shown while in pause.

completely unnecessary, especially in long games where you can leave for 2 mins and it doesn't affect your play whatsoever.
As opposed to short games where the opposite is the case. Your point?
theres no need to pause in short games because they are < 5 min, and theres no need in long games because of how long they are, you can answer the phone, go make coffee and come back with lots of time left.

ever notice how super gms leave the table for 15+ minutes and then come back to play? its the same concept, just online
Your scales are all scewed. If you have to take a piss or answer the phone, it can't wait 5 minutes or even 3. If you answer the phone, go make coffee and come back to a 10 or 15 minute game without increment, you still lose on time. Ever notive how super gms play for 5 hours and people on lichess don't? That's because it's not the same concept, it's in fact a whole different kind of chess. They call it blitz, it has to do with the fact that it's played at faster time controls.
a 10 minute game is 20 minutes long if it goes down to the wire, 15 is a half hour (yes, without increment). if you can't piss or make coffee and come back in that amount of time you might have a potentially serious medical issue you should get checked out.

also when i say long games, i mean anything > 10 min chess. which does include the time control sgms play at, and people on here do in fact play 120 min games. its called standard, blitz is 5 min games

sidenote, i used to play 10 min games when i was just starting out and leave halfway through to make a sandwich. its very possible
It's not about whether or not you can make your coffee or sandwich before your clock runs out, it's about being in a time disadvantage afterwards that will most likely prove serious if the opponents are fairly matched and not extremely weak.
If this pause feature were to be implemented, the players would find some way to abuse it.
@ortolan, as I said the pause should be agreed by both. If you have any doubt about someone abusing the feature, you should not agree. Anyway there are several ways to cheat and it's not about the feature, it's about the people. Shouldn't we play online chess because there are some cheaters? I don't think so.
